wellingtonmeetings

The Wellington group attempts to meet once a month. These meetings occur on the first Wednesday of each month and are held at 150 Willis St. These meetings will be announced and planned on the mailing list.

There will usually be talks at the meetings. We are always keen to have people volunteer to speak on a topic, whether on Postgres usage and features, local companies using it for their own applications, or on general relational database design.

If you are interested in Postgres, meetings are the ideal place to find and talk face-to-face with enthusiasts and experts and find out whether it might, or might not, be suitable for your particular situation.

Next Meeting

  • Date: 4 February 2009 at 6:00pm
  • Location: Level 3, 150 Willis St, Wellington

The subject of this meeting will be a debate about the use of natural and surrogate keys in database design. This is one of the most hotly contested issues in database design, it's not a binary or "one solution fits all" issue so there will be points of agreement as well as difference and we have people with views all along the spectrum. Whether or not you choose to speak, this should prove to be a learning experience and beneficial when weighing up different database designs in the future.

As with any topic on which people have strong opinions, we must all remember to respect others' views, to listen as well as speak and to come to the event with an expectation to learn more than an expectation to 'teach'. All views will be heard and people are welcome to speak or listen as they wish.
